Far away, in a village called Ifopa,
there live three girls who are so close that they do everything together. They
aren’t age mates but the love they have for one another makes them act like
one. Labake, Fadekemi, and Abike are usually the talk of the town as they are
very beautiful, though, people see Abike as the most beautiful because she is
the fairest among the three.
The three girls will always chat about
how they want to buy one thing or the other that will make them look more beautiful
as days pass, so as to have more toasters as several men cross their way often,
to woo them. The trio enjoyed the feeling of having to turn heads and get
noticed every time they step out. They laugh at girls who aren’t as pretty as
they are, calling them ‘obo’ meaning Monkey.
Labake, the oldest among the
three will always say, “don’t listen to those men o we will one day travel to
the city and find better men who will spoil us with riches. These ones here
aren’t just up to my own standard”. Now, I’m just wondering if the men in Ifopa
aren’t planning to go to the city as well. I think Labake the gang
leader doesn’t think so.
Adesanya, the prince of Ijaiye,
a town close to Ifopa has come to visit his friend Olawale. Sure, Adesanya is a
handsome young man who is very humble even with his royalties. He has known
Olawale for a long time during secondary school days, when Olawale will accompany
him to the palace in order to say hi to the king and eat till he is full. They
both enjoy each other’s company.
As fate will have it, the trio were on a walk to the stream, accompanying labake fetch a bowl of water as her mum
had sent when Olawale and Adesanya sighted them. As expected, the prince couldn’t
just take his eyes off. “So there are beautiful girls like these ones in Ifopa”,
he said to Olawale.
Olawale who knows the trio too well
discouraged him, saying, they are proud and arrogant and ready to snub or
insult whoever greets them not to talk of wooing them except if you are ready
to shower them with your wealth. On hearing these, the prince was disappointed to
hear that these girls with such beauty lack good character. If that is the case,
why not let me confirm myself.
“Excuse me girls, I’m sorry to
interrupt, my name is Adesanya, the prince of Ijaiye. Can I know you
girls?” he said. All Olawale could hear was “LaFaBi…” as they began introducing
themselves all at once. Then he decided to see Labake in private. She had goose
bum all over her while Abike and Fadekemi felt bad. Of course he couldn’t have
wooed the three of them.
I will give you as much as
you want and desire as long as you are ready to be mine. Labake who has always
taught the girls never to say yes to a man who is not from the city couldn’t
just turn down the prince as all she wants is wealth and riches.
Labake deceived her friends but she
got a bigger deceit from the Prince as Adesanya wasn’t ready to be with a woman
after his wealth and royalty.
As a woman, surround yourself
with those who have got goals and pursue your own dream and watch a man’s
wealth be a bonus and not your reason for being with him.
